Canada Pension Plan

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is a contributory, earnings-related social insurance program. It ensures a measure of protection to a contributor and his or her family against the loss of income due to retirement, disability and death. The Canada Pension Plan applies throughout Canada except in the province of Quebec where a similar program, the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP), is in force. The operation of the two programs co-ordinated through a series of agreements between the federal and Quebec governments. Benefits form either program are based on pension credits accumulated under both.

Workers' Compensation Board of B.C.

Workers in a great majority of industries in B.C. are protected by the Workers' Compensation Act, which is administered by the Workers' Compensation Board on behalf of the Ministry of Labour. The Act both provides expeditious financial, medical and rehabilitation assistance to workers who become disabled by industrial injury and disease, and empowers the WCB to make and enforce accident prevention, industrial hygiene and first aid regulations for the protection of B.C's work force.
