Kootenay BarterKootenay Barter is a non-profit organization sponsored by the West Kootenay Community EcoSociety. It's purpose is to promote local trading and strengthen the local economy through the use of Kootenay HOURs, or barter bucks as they are also called. Kootenay Barter prints a directory of those businesses and individuals who accept barter bucks.
There are now more than $40,000 HOURS in circulation since it started in 1994. The advantage to using barter bucks is that the money stays here.
Every time you spend a barter buck you are hiring a neighbour. Listing in the bi-monthly directory costs $6. In exchange, initial participants receive 4 HOURS ($40 worth) in barter bucks. This is the way the bank slowly increases the money supply in the area. All are welcome to participate. For more information, please call Suzy Hamilton, 354-1909. We welcome your input.
