Canada World Youth / EcoAmericas program

The EcoAmericas is a unique youth exchange between Nelson and Tijuana (Mexico) that will take place in the area next fall. It is an experiencial, non-formal educational program that will be exploring various ways of building a sustainable North America together.

The group, composed of 5 Canadians and 5 Mexicans between ages 21 and 25, will be in Nelson and the area from the 18th of August to the 24th of November. After what they will all go to Tijuana for the last part of the exchange.

During their stay, they will share the everyday life of local host families and do volunteer work for different organization in the region.

Canada World Youth has been doing youth exchanges for more than 30 years, and living with host families is the best way we found to integrate the participants to a new culture and a new community.

As to the work placements, they also allow the participants to learn more about the local issues and to explore the different solutions people have found to deal with those issues, and to give a hand to local organizations. This year, the focus will be put mainly on environmental (food production, water and forrest preservation, etc) and social justice related issues.

Our aim is to form youth that will be aware of what sustainable development means in the North American context and that will play an active role in their own community when they go back home.
